How much does the valve open and did it have rear seatbelts?
 

As some might remember I have been doing engine rebuild for quite some time, now its time to adjust timing.

I was wondering how much should the valves open when timing the engine? Somebody said to me its 2.5mm on a 2.4T. Could somebody give me more detailed information?

Also I found these rear seatbelts from local scrapyard and was wondering if I should install these or not? Did the -72T originally have rear seatbelts?

My friend was horrified when I told I was gonna start driving the car at the end of this month, well it has no interior, no engine...well as soon as i get the engine in, I will get it on the road.

My '69E was a European model and it did not have any rear seatbelts, but it did have the plates and mounting holes already in place. There were a couple of black plugs screwed into the holes. I got a set of rear belts from my local Used Porsche Parts supplier and they bolted right in with bolts from my local hardware store.

I believe that in the 60's and 70's that the US had stricter seatbelt requirement then Europe. Since Porsche was selling more then half of their cars in the US, it would be reasonable that they would put the brackets in all of their cars and just omit the belts and hardware in the markets that didn't require it.

Anyhow, Yours should mount just as easy to install.

My 72E did not have seat belts in the back. I also did not see any signs that they had ever been installed.

My 70 S has rear seat belts with a 69 date code on them, now if they came with the car or not I don't know. I would put them in good for driving the kids around.

I would imagine that the valves on a 911 would open more than 2.4mm. Mine open about a half-inch. My lawn mower valves probably open more than 2.5mm.

The 2.5mm sounds like the valve overlap measurement when timing the cams. On my 69E it is 3-3.5mm. My 69E had rear seat belts installed and fixed point shoulder belts. A real pain. Hope this helps.

In California, all cars 68 and on had to have rear seatbelts according to the CA Vehicle code.
