Factory oil hard line fit
I just installed a set of used oil lines. The fit was pretty good with the exception of the "U" shaped portion of the line that fits around the jack placement square tube just below the door jam. My line sits really close to the back side of the square tube just about and 1/8 inch clearence (or the rest of the "U" in the line sits forward of the jack position.) Everything on the front and rear fits like is should.
How do the rest of the lines fit on other 911s cars? I would have though the "U" tobe centered. I would have taken a picture but I put the rocker back on and now the fit is starting to bug me. |

I just looked at a factory installation on a SC and the loop isn't centered on it's jacking tube either; it is offset the same direction as you report in your installation. I didn't measure the offset amount. I just installed a set of oil lines on my '76; one new and one used and my loop wasn't perfectly centered either. There has to be manufacturing tolerance issues here plus your lines are used. I wouldn't worry about it; most of the time one can hardly see the loop. What is more important is to put an anti-seize compound on your coupling threads so the system may be taken apart in the future; don't put the compound on the sealing surfaces put it only on the threads. I would also loosely hookup the entire system (including the front if you're using a "trombone" turn around loop) before "cinching" anything down; the four hookups at the thermostat can be difficult to achieve if the hard lines are already locked down. Also, due to wrench clearance problems one has to work ones way out through the thermostat couplings; make sure you have everything in position and hand tightened enough to hold it as it is very frustrating to have reloosen everything to reposition the innermost coupling. Cheers, Jim
