the starting system is already "weak" so cutting the wire and adding cheap A%^ crimpss and a relay is making it weaker. when my brother bought an 88, he had an intermittent starting problem. after replacing the ignition switch AND the starter, he brought it to me. the car alarm was causing ALL his problems. if you must disable the car, disable the fuel pump. when i worked at an auto electric repair shop, after market car alarms were a big cause of problems.

I have a battery cut off switch in car with a key that is hidden; a quick release steering wheel with key and a pedal jack. Now if they tow my car well I have insurance.

I would avoid the trunk monkey. Mine didn't work or correctly. I had my trunk monkey installed by the dealer. All mine would do was throw feces and masturbate in the trunk. Two years later after about a case of Lysol and a lot Febreze, I had mine deactivated and removed. I was really disappointed with mine.

A starter kill is just a switch or a relay( electronic swith) that goes in between the starter wire. It is no different on a Porsche or a ford. If the wiring on your car is in good shape you should have no problems with one. I have been putting in starter interrupts for 30 yrs.. I don't recommend them on new cars because they are useless of new cars because of chip keys and passlock ignition systems but in older cars they work fine as long as connections are made right. They are very easy and I go thru about 100 relays a month with the work I do and I cant remember the last time I had one fail.I would say over the yrs about 50-100 alarms in Porsches with no problems. The main thing you have to watch in those cars is factory pin switches going bad and causing false alarms.
In my car an 83 sc cab / turbo , I also am a big fan of the tracking systems. They have came way down in price and you can be alerted over your mobile phone and see were the car is at all times and if you go to a good shop he can customize the system to your liking. On my car if I get alerted that the car has been moved I can push a button on my phone and shut the car right down were it is. I have more money into my car like all of us then I'd like to say and I am not worried about breaking in an taking something but if it were taken, I would be upset, she is part of the family. |

I know you want to protect your car, but the downside is to let one of these alarm guys into your car and it's internals. First of all you'll have a lot of new wiring that is usually not installed in a workmen like manner, next if down the road any of it goes bad you won't be able to start your car. Also it can make it hard to diagnose electrical problems if the tech is having to sort through a lot of extra wiring that isn't on any schematic.
If someone really wants your car, they'll probably get it anyway...

I have an 82 911 sc that came equipped with the factory alarm system. Where it has a lock in the door jam.
My question is the PO lost the key for it. Does anyone know where I can get either the key and have someone cut it to fit the lock or replace the entire part with something new or used that comes with a set of keys.

@andy911sc, in the same boat like you...PO of 87 Carrera lost key to factory alarm system. Many have suggested to have the it re-keyed by an experienced porsche locksmith...i will be asking the help of Mr. Tony Eugeneo in Sharon Hill, PA next month for duplicate ignition keys, and the factory alarm system. Lockandkeyid.com.
Any feedback about this specific locksmith would help? Thanks Btw, How about a reminder sticker... ![]()

@a&j: I just spoke with Tony at Lockandkeyid.com He can re-key the alarm switch. It will cost $100.00 even. You get two keys with it. He only does check or paypal. That price includes him shipping it all back to you.

I have used Compustar on three of my past toys( two being Porsche's ) and on my current 930. I swear by them. Their 2 way feature works great. I believe now one can a gps to the mix. Not a cheap system but worth every penny IMO.

While I agree that a sounding alarm in a parking lot seems to go unnoticed, I would still have an alarm system as it certainly could alert me if sounding in my garage.
I have an alarm in my 944 which added keyless entry - this is the primary benefit to me. |
