73 RS specs
I'd like to build a 73 RS look alike. I know I can buy the front and rear bumpers and ducktail. But what size are the flares and was the front fender flared at all? What rim sizes did the RS use?
I'm not too interested in the engine specs because I thought I'd cheat and drop in a newer engine. If anyone can point me at an article or to somewone who has already done this please let me know. My wife says I should just buy one from someone who has already done all of the work! (just hate it when she's right). Thanks.

Allan - your wife is quite right : it would be cheaper to buy a car that someone else has already converted to an RS replica, but that takes a lot of the fun away from the project...
The 2.7RS Carrera originally came equipped with 6 & 7 x 15" wheels but part way through the 'production' run 7 & 8 x 15" wheels were homologated & these are the sizes most people associate with the model. Front wings (fenders) were std 69-73 versions but rears were flared to accomodate the larger rear wheels. Most people use the later (& more readily available) SC flares which are the same width but with a subtly different flange - most onlookers (even most 911 'afficianados') won't notice (or know) the difference! If you search the PP archives you will find lots of previous threads on this topic with many useful links & pictures of real & replica RS Carreras. Andy Boyle (UK) '69 911E |
