...on a tank of fuel?

Mu guage sending unit is broken, and I have the standard sized tank in my early car. The engine I guess to be mostly stock ( but was rebuilt a few years ago) but has the webers.

The car seems to go pretty good for a T! Sound is something else too.

Can I get 200 miles of average driving city and highway from a tank without worry?


I am (as some know by reading my posts) very green with my car ..working on 700 miles now since it was sorted out.

OK Reg......bonding time!!!

YOU can replace the sender unit. A new sender and gasket is less than $100 from Pelican, and its an easy job.
Do this and you will be part of the brotherhood.
Do this and your car will have a worthy owner.
Do this and feel the pride of Porsche ownership.

Meantime, top off the tank every 150 or so - no point being a hero, right?

I will attempt to fool with the basic things myself.


I have had my unit apart already and thought I may have fixed it. The float was all gummed up with horrble rust muck. I thought I removed most of it , and had it moving relatively smoothly up and down but it still does not work. The four wires are very thin and look fragile.

It was on empty, and now its stuck at 3/4 :)

I have so many little things that need attending to that replacing unit is far down my wish list.

150 miles eh? Thanks for the info... I had better get some in there.

I didn't mean to respond to this because my car has the optional 100 liter tank. Not sure which one you have, but I easily go over over 400 miles without hitting the reserve.

I can tell you because I just tried it.... I got 430 (~24 mpg) miles on a tank in my 80 SC between fill ups.... highway driving. I don't recommend it because doing so is what gummed up my fuel filter. I also have to add... that I ordered my fuel filter on tuesday pm...and the filter was at my door on friday AM (in KANSAS!). Excellent job Pelican! I ordered a clutch pack for my wifes Rodeo 2 weeks prior...and the pelican part beat it to the house! Brian
