SC mileage poll
Time for a poll:
Much has been made of the SC 3.0 litre's durability. Let's get a feel for how much mileage we've piled on our trusty steeds.

57K on my 82. I did the tensioners 3 years ago to appease the Porsche gods. Runs smooth and easy.

These cars were made to be driven. The more you drive, the better they get! When its time, I'll just rebuild and start over.

235K on the odometer.
Rebuilt at....well....235K. Car ran great before rebuild.... just those pesky Dilvar headstuds caught up to me. These cars were meant to be driven!

Does 272,000 mean that these cars just keep on keepin on?
I just rebuilt at 271k & did a full repaint...JE Hi-Comp, 21/20 Webcam inc, Dansk/SSI, magnafluxed, Carrera Oil pump...I think Betsy is ready for her next 250k!

Although not quite an SC, but my Carrera 3.0 has 78K. Only mods are SSI's and the PO put in those tensioner colapse preventer rings.

138K on my 78 Targa with nothing but tensioners by the PO.
I'm in love with an engine that feels as strong with high (?) milage on it as it does rolling off the factory floor! ![]() |

Technically there is 190K on my 78SC, However there is 70K on fully rebuilt motor and transaxle, 10-20K on suspension, 30K on brakes, 10K on interior, 30K on paint, 3K on half shafts and the list goes on and on.
There is no box to check for this

185,000 on a virgin engine.
I do not like the hydro tensioner change.

I just went over 224,000 miles, in fact I just ordered an oil filter from our good buddys here at Pelican Parts for my 225,000 oil change.
The upper engine was done @ 111,000 and I had the tensioner upgrade done @ 167,000 I put new injectors and intake runners @190,000 my starter just took a dump @ 224,000 I dyno'd her last year @183HP at the rear wheels and I just sent in my application for a dyno run in two weeks,I plan to do two runs... one with K&N and one with stock.... we will find out ! Might I say........ SC's Rule ! 1983 Targa Last edited by chuckr; 02-01-2002 at 04:53 PM.. |

I love my SC.
194k and no engine work - it's worn out two gearboxes though. Bill '79SC |
