Puffy Sunvisors

Anyone know anybody that refurbishes these? I have a 72' 911 and mine are looking sad.

Mickey, many of the later 911 model SV's will fit. Unless you want the originals....I bought some 89 Carrera SV's for my '83 sc...the only diff is the mirror sliding cover. BTW, buy any color you can find and paint them with vinyl paint...rustoleum worked perfectly making a set of Maroons a nice flat black. The same paint they use on seats.

Mikey:

Search "sunvisor repair" as we just had a thread about that last week. A name was posted of someone in NY who refurbishes them for, I believe, $75/pair. My take on why they deteriorate is that they are filled with 'horse hair" just like the back seat bottoms. Horse hair is actually shreded coconut shells, so you can imagine what happens after they start to crack and settle.

HTH,

FWIW, if you want to spend a little more $$$ our host can get the Porsche Classic repops of the correct sunvisors.

Visors...

When Autobahn Interiors replaced my headliner we looked at my visors which were not baggy, but still looked like they could become the Michelin man given enough time.

What we came up with was using the headliner material on the visors. Tony had stitched the edges, I think they turned out great. The only draw back is that we didn't reinstall the passenger side mirror. However, I can work that out if it's an issue in the future.

Not sure how they get them, but Sierra Madre sells them - near the bottom of the page.

It says 'genuine'.

I caved and bought the new 'original' ones made by Porsche Classic. Got them from Stoddard's as they had stock and Pelican didn't. They have ones specific to 69-77 Targas, which made me very happy. My old ones probably didn't look that bad, but I hated the squishy feeling when I pulled them down.

The quality is excellent. The price is a bit hefty (considering I live in the sticks and shipping is horrific.) The vinyl texture is not an absolutely perfect match for my '76, but I feel it is close enough. All in all, it looks factory fresh.

The visors no longer draw attention to themselves, but paradoxically I now miss some of the patina! At least I don't cringe when I use them anymore. I'll try to upload a picture a bit later.

They have foam in them that breaks down. The originals are black on one side and white on the other. Expensive to replace. Have not see fixed ones

Targa ones are black, the coupe ones are two-tone.

Here are some pics of the new ones from Porsche Classic.

old vs new (you re-use the old hinges)

Those look the same as the ones that Sierra Madre is selling. Any idea why Pelican doesn't offer these?

Actually, I wound up buying a pair of used Cabby visors and mounting hardware in very good condition for under $100 from Rick @ Weekend Rides. I just posted the link because I was interested in the threads and many posters stated being very happy with the work and cost.

I've been kinda biting my tongue, but I'm gonna throw this out anyways. I don't know what the product is like, but past history has shown that not very many Porsche owners have been satisfied with Sierra Madre. Just my .02 cents.

EDIT: I just noticed your Join Date. Being a newb, I probably shouldnt even be pointing out stuff like this to you. My apologies.

Just to reiterate, whether you get them at Sierra Madre or Stoddard or Pelican or wherever, they are made in Stuttgart.
