The next Phoenix, AZ gathering...

OK, it sounds like several of you want to try a weekend get together. How about this...

Every Saturday night at The Pavillions shopping center (West of the 101 at Indian Bend) there is a huge car show. There are lots of hot rods, classics, antiques, rice, bikes, etc. It's lot of fun.

I went last night and parked my car on the row for "New classics". A friend of mine was there with his hot rod Checker Limo. We stood by his car, but where I could still see mine. It kinda makes ya' proud when people stop in their tracks and run over to do a couple of laps around your car!

Would you guys want to hook up at this show a couple of Saturdays from now? Another friend of mine who does custom cars says you need to get there around 4:00 to get parking spots together. Everyone cleared out a little after 8:00.

There are fast food restaurants, pizza, etc. there so we could just grab a bite while hanging out around the car... or leave on the early side to find a proper sit down restaurant. Anyone for April 27?

Sounds good to me but could also meet on the 20th as well. Just got an email from Jose and he is in Eloy every weekend but would drive up for one of the get togethers...

I'm in. I drove my car down there several months ago and I was the only one with a 911. It looked like a lot of fun.

I will be out of town on business from April 15-19 and from April 22-26. I'll be flying home for the weekend of the 20-21.

Cool

If you guys get together on the 20th I'll be there. I work at Skydive Phoenix located at the Estrella Mountains Sailport on 238w, nice road btw. I'ts about 12 miles from the race track on Maricopa rd. If any of you Phoenix guys want to make at skydive let me know. I can't make it on the 27th, there is a skydiving boogie at Rocky Point so that's where I'll be doing tandem jumps landing on the beach. Hope to meet you guys soon.

April 20 is a maybe for me. I'm hiking Picacho Peak that morning, so I'm not sure how my wife and/or knees will be holding up by that evening. No, she's not hiking with me, but she'll be caring for our 2 year old solo all day... a feat nearly as challenging as Picacho Peak.

Either weekend works for me, but it sounds like the 20th is getting a better response. Besides Lee, by then the temps will be high enough that you would want to do the climb early in the day, giving you the rest of the day to recover!

I'm thinking I might be OK with 4/20. My wife would join me--she loves those 'Vettes (she dreams of the day I buy her a powder-blue and white '57) almost as much as she loves the P-car.

Picked up another paint scrape--some dumb@ss in a beater Ford truck tapped my front bumper trying to park, took a 1/8" by 4" strip of paint off all the way down to the plastic!!!!! ARRRGH! Guess that puts me one step closer to the repaint.

Thumbs up

I can probably make it the 20th. Having a few "bugs" from the restoration process. Hope to have them worked out by then.

OK, let's make it Saturday, April 20th. I'll try to remember to take some anti-inflamatory drugs before the hike so I can still operate the clutch in the afternoon! Last time I hiked Picacho Peak I was still walking funny three days later. (And if anyone is interested in doing this hike, let me know.)

Like I said in my earlier post, I think you've got to get there pretty early to have any hopes of parking together. I'll try to track down the organizers to see what chance we have of getting some space on the car club row. I've been told that's doubtful for small numbers on short notice.

What do you guys think about dinner... sit in folding chairs and use Aaron's spoiler as a picnic table for fast food or pizza? Go out for dinner afterwards (keeping in mind this is Scottsdale on a Saturday night... can you say, "We'll call your name in an hour.")???

The wife has a tenative Laughlin Run scheduled for that weekend (first long turbo drive) But if not I will be there. It will be really nice putting faces to the names. As for Dinner Charley's steakery is in that mall with a little ice cream, after. Remember I have a "tea tray" on my car, I believe it will seat 6 comfortably.. lol

p.s. MarkY, the floor goes in on Thursday!! Thanks for the Ultimategarage place...awesome!

Blue Sky,
I know what you meet about paint. A City of Peoria garbage truck ran the pick-up arms down the the side of my car two years ago. I called the police, got the truck back out and the height and tire marks lined up perfectly. The city's chief traffic investigator came out , and without taking any measurements, declared that it "did not happen". So I started a 2 1/2 year bare metal resto that I am just now finishing. It is a *****ty feeling.

Wow, that's fast. When I scheduled mine, there was a two week backlog. I had mine done on a Thursday/Friday and I moved some stuff back into my garage on Sunday but didn't move my cars back in until the following Sunday.

Good luck, you're going to love it. What color did you end up getting?

They are going to do it on Thursday/Friday to. I went with the Camel color. Goes best with the house color.

Will post some before and after pictures and show everyone the difference. Really looking forward to it, but not looking forward to my car being outside for 7 days!

I called the McDonald's person who handles the cars show club row reservations. They're booked until the end of May.

I'll get a head count as the 20th nears so the first to arrive can look for the appropriate number of spaces. Also, I'll send my cell phone number to those who RSVP so they can call ahead and find out which row we're on.

If I count those who said "probably" and "maybe" there should be around seven or eight cars. Does that sound right?

Count me in. Can I get a better address and time for the get together?

Joe,

The Pavillions shopping center is located just west of the 101 on Indian Bend Rd. in Scottsdale. After you exit from the 101 at Indian Bend, head west. The shopping center will be on your right. There will be a McDonalds in the parking lot. Most of the display area is in front of, to the left of, and behind the restaurant.

I plan to park in the "new classics" rows. If you enter the shopping center at the traffic light after the McDonalds, you will be on a driveway of sorts. You will see the cars on your right. Go to the end of the driveway, turn right, then turn right again into one of the first 2-3 rows of the parking lot. This will be general parking for the shopping center, but if you continue down the row you'll see yellow A frame signs indicating the beginning of the display parking. It might make sense to park, then walk in to the display area to find me. Or better yet, call me on your cell phone when you get there and I'll guide you in.

I will e-mail my cell number to all who plan to attend. There are a lot of car and people and it can be tricky to find someone there.

I plan to get there around 4:00. Last time I was there it broke up a little after 8:00.

I'm 90% sure I'll be there, and I'll be accompanied by my buddy who has a '00 convertible 'vette (we'll probably be arriving separately).

Sorry.

We'll probably get there at 4:00 or so.
