Early seat options?
I have an original Recaro sport seat in my 72 that's in pretty rough shape. What are my options for replacing it? Is it a nightmare to fabricate adapters to install seats from an SC or Carrera? I ask because those are easy to find and relatively inexpensive. I'm looking at $1000-1500 to rebuild the current seat, and at least that if not double to replace it. What about aftermarket options that won't require fabricating adapters?

Adapters for later seats are relatively easy. Later seats tracks are slightly narrower, so most of the time these are fitted with a flat piece of steel or aluminum about 2" wide that is drilled and tapped to bring the seat track out. GTS Classics also sells some nice seats that are not too expensive.

Anyone have any pics of adapters they've fabricated?

Do a search on seat adaptors. There were a couple of threads about it several years ago. I remember one had diagrams for making them.
