Post Added spacers today! (pics)

Today I installed the 1" spacers I purchased from Pelican earlier this week. Here are some before and after pictures:

Very nice. Is the beer bottle added for scale references?

Cool!

It must have been really hard work getting the spacers on (beers needed).

That looks cool, but forgive me, are spacers functional? I really just don't know. I could assume that, from widening the stance, you're improving the stability and performance of the vehicle but I know nothing of spacers and I'm curious. Thanks!

The beer bottle shows that it is a one beer job. I was done before I could I could open a second.

Yeah they are functional - I think they look cool and give the car a more aggressive stance. Hey, if it feels good......

Doesn't that look better. I did the same thing. I have an '82 SC. Did you put any spacers up front? If not you might want to try 3/4 inchers up front. At first I tried 1" spacers up front but got some rubbing. I didn't want to roll the fenders so returned the 1"s and got 3/4"s. It does the same for the looks and stance up front.

To answer a previous poster's question....it depends on how the spacers are done. The easy way is a five lug to five lug adapter type spacer using an extra set of lugnuts....not well liked in racing circles.

The other way is to add "turbo style" spacers. These slip over longer studs and are acceptable in racing circles. You get the same "look" but with more money out your pocket and more safety. You have to install longer studs and usually have to replace wheel bearings....although a poster...I think it was John Walker gave us a hint on how to pull studs through the e-brake adjustment hole...

FWIW, I have the adapter style spacers because I am using later offset wheels off a 993 for the street. But when I go racing, I use a set of Fuchs that fill the wheel well without the spacers.

On the street, I like the later wheels styling. While on the track I go with functionality....

retnug,

I got the impression from the board that 1/4" in the front was all I could do without rubbing or rolling the lip. 1/4" didn't seem worth the trouble, but 3/4" certainly would.

Since you were able to add 3/4" spacers, is your car at factory height and wheels?

Any more comments for the front out there? My cars is at factory height and still has the factory fuchs.

Yes my car is factory. 6" and 7" wheels and stock US height. No rubbing at all. It's sort of unoque to these cars that they all seem to be just a little different.

Not to be a mommy, but if you do any amount of work on your car, you really should invest in a good floor jack and a set of jack stands. Using the factory "emergency" jack is a really bad habit.
