915 Question - What's this sensor?
 
Hey guys, I had a question... what is the sensor in this picture, and can I order a new one from our host?

yes. but yours may just be dirty. it looks unfinished on that side even new.

If your speedometer was working, don't bother getting a new one.

If you cut the wire to pull the transmission, you can just reconnect the two wires. Doesn't matter which wire connects to which.

The sender is a reed switch, which closes each time one of the eight magnets inside the transmission passes by it. Closing the reed switch grounds a circuit. You could check its function easily enough with an ohmeter and a magnet.

Otherwise, when you clean the oil off of the tranny, it should clean the wire enough that it doesn't look decrepit.
