Question Inflatable Spare ??

Thinking of dumping the OEM spare along with the portable compresser (not OEM) and just put a steel rimmed spare or another Stock Fuchs in the trunk. It's just a major PITA to change a flat. Any thoughts by anyone ???

i just today bought a fix-a-flat tube ofair and ho sealer for the spare. it would eleminate your need for the compressor. the fuch in the trunk? it will not fit in the oem tire slot, seems like it would consume what remains of a rather small trunk space

You'll only be able to fit the Fuch wheel. Not wheel and tire. The later fuel tanks are to big to carry a full size rim and tire.

Yeah, I know the rim and tire won't fit in the same compartment as the inflatable. I figured I'd just lay it in the trunk and secure it somehow, since I don't use the trunk for anything anyway. Plus I don't trust it. At least with a "real Spare" you can see if it functional (has air in it )

Will it fit in that way ??? BTW, I use to carry those "FIXAFLAT" in a can thingys but, they get used so infrequently, they get OLD and lose pressure. And when you really need them, (at night, in the rain, on a back road and dead cell phone batteries) they don't work. They should be replaced each year if one carries them.

Porsche Crest spare

I used my inflatable spare after an encounter with a large metal object that flew off the back of a flatbed trailer. After changing my boxers, I changed the tire (trashed rim and tire) to the spare which worked flawlessly. It went back into shape when I took all the air out of it, ready for next time.

What would be the motivation to put a full size spare under the bonnet?

The inflatable spare nested in its fuel-tank recess is designed to be part of the 911's front crush structure. Okay, maybe not cadcam-designed, but the engineers put it where it is in part because they figured it'd be of use in a front-end impact. As far as I know, certain DE and club-racing procedures require it to be left there in stock cars.

O.K.I'll keep the beach ball spare. I'll just check it and the compressor once in a while to see if they really work.

alan,
To answer your question, no a 16x6 Fuch wheel with a 205-55 tire will not fit in the front boot.

A nice alternative to the steel spare:

I have a guy who has one or two of these left, if anyone's interested, I can forward the info.
