which way does this washer go on?
 

I'm reassembling my alternator/fan assembly after having it rebuilt, but I didn't take note of the orientation of the washer shown in the photo. It's the first thing to go on the shaft between the alternator and fan. Notice it has a smaller diameter on one side. Does it go small side first, or large size first? I'm thinking small side first as shown but want to verify.

ok,no photo as im struggling to get it to upload...maybe you all can understand what im asking without the photo. Lets' find out!

You should have 6 shims and a washer for the nut

Thanks...I'll look into that link tomorrow. But I'm talking about the spacer/washer that sits between the alternator and fan by the woodruff shaft key.

Yes, PAG is the Porsche AG site, but it does not have it either.

The washer is contained in this kit...upper right in the photo if you look in the catalog.

Bingo! I have the Haynes too, but didn't think to look in it as it has such a bad rep. So, I was correct in my thinking about its orientation. Much thanks for your input...hey, we have the same car! Jack

I always double check with Haynes just in case, you never ever know what you will find. It's not only used as a jack pad :-P
