I'm about to embark on replacing the leather covers on the front sport seats in my 84' Targa. (I think) I'm debating on whether this is something I can do myself or if I should take it to the shop and have them do for me? Anyone have experience on this and may be able to throw some tips my way if I do it myself. I can get the leather seat kits from World Upholstery so that's not a problem.

Curious why you are replacing them?
If it is some simple rips, you might want to look at Leatherique.com Good luck. |

Dan--
I know others have done it - check the archives. It all depends upon your skill, your fussy-ness and your wallet. As for me: 0/10/I could afford it. So, I just had the seats on my '85 Targa done. Took it to a local upholstery shop that came recommended to me from several Porsche owners. I wasn't disappointed in the least - they look fabulous. If you do decide to do it yourself, just remember that you might want/need to redo the seat cushions as well. hope this helps some. This is what I have now: ![]() Which replaced these: ![]()

I removed the butt-part of my drivers' seat, cut templates of the guts that needed replacing and took the stuff to a local upholstery shop for them to do the sewing. It was a repair/facelift job. It was fun and interesting for me to remove and reinstall the cover. I'm about to do the same thing on the other side. With a new factory upholstery kit, it would be even easier. Not much needed except hog rings and a hog ring plier, probably available from Pelican.
BTW, my interior looks EXACTLY like the one above. Not quite as fresh as the first picture but considerably nicer than the 'before pic. And the SAME color exactly.
