Where's the best place in US to buy a porsche?
Anybody with experience re: if there are significant regional differences in the selling price and condition of a used Porsche?
Effects of climate, cost of living, unemployment? |

I was told on a forum to check out Connecticut and it worked for me. As opposed to a Southern or California car that is driven and beaten by the sun year round, it seems like most 911's are fair weather cars in CT and live in nice garages. CT is not generally an inexpensive state to buy things but I think the supply of cars would be greater than in, say, Idaho. This was my experience anyway.

X2 on arizona. How about an 86 with over 200k and no rust!!! Amazing.
Actually I lie, I did find a patch of rust the other day in the channel that mounts the regulator to the door window.

Shhhhhhh! Everyone knows CA cars are best, living out by the salty sea. Leave the desert gems for those of us already out here!

Desert cars that have lived 100% in a garage are best. No sunburn and no rust. Dry rubber, but that'll happen with age anyway.

-1 on the Connecticut, sorry just my opinion that the NE is really rough on cars due to winter salt and sand and all year humidity. Even if they are not driven in the snow then they sit around all winter which gives the seals a chance to dry out, fuel to spoil, internal rust to form, water in the oil to accumulate. (I know I'm exaggerating).
I'd +1 the desert cars like Arizona or Las Wages, but they are not as plentiful as either California or Florida. So my first choice would be Southern California, second is Miami area. HTH, Chuck.H '89 TurboLookTarga, 331k miles (bought in Miami in 1993) |

I think what you should look at is not where the car is now, but where it spent most of it's life.

Georgia/Florida. Lots of guys getting older and deciding to stop driving and play more golf. Mine from Jacksonville is near perfect condition wise. The heat and poor AC drive guys to re-consider the old P-Cars. I think they take them with them when they retire and they never come back. Look on Craigs in Jacksonville, Tampa and then on to the other lesser known cities. Mine lived in GA and FL exclusively, garaged so the interior and paint is extremely good.

I targeted a snow belt car when I started looking for a cabriolet years ago. Found one in Chicago - only driven in the summer - garaged the rest of the time. Yearly tune up and oil change. 44,000 miles. Paint and interior was as new. It ended up having valve guides.
I've also seen some garage queens that were rusting from the inside out because all they saw was a wash and put away. There are some nice cars in Florida and Georgia too. Probably good advice would be to monitor the CA sites and their smog issues - plenty of decent 1975 and later cars come up for smog and can't pass - and the owners don't have the resources to put money into them...
