930 worth how much?
Hey guys,
I am normally over on the 914 list, but I know a guy here in town that is wanting to sell is 930 and I was wondering how much they are worth. Here is what he has emailed me about the car: "It is American specification (bigger bumpers, smog stuff, seat belt,etc.). It has a new 3.5 engine that has about 3000 miles on it. The car has about 18000 miles but the engine has 3000 miles. The engine has about 500-550 HP. It has bigger turbo (k29S), custom cam (GT race car cam), one bar spring, direct ignition (tech two), lightweight clutch package, Garretson intercooler, BBK headers, BBK exhaust, short shifter, turbo controller, and some other stuff that I do not remember right now. The interior is blue just like the color of the car (all original and never been touched). It has RUF wheels with 255/40 ZR 17 in the back and 245/45 17 in the front in very good condition. I could give you any service records that you want because it only went to the Porsche dealer. All the engine upgrades were made by the dealer too." ![]() Basically he is a rich kid from overseas, and the car is too high profile for him, so he just want to get rid of it. What would be a price range for this kind of car? Thanks for the help guys, Tony Chavez |

I guess he just added the euro side marker lights??
Looks like a 88... and looks like a euro. If he has documentation to prove the miles (why a new engine on an 18k car??) it is worth a bunch... perhaps $35,000 or more. Without docs forget the miles and I would say less. Whatever the case, get a PPI!!! What is he asking?

It is a euro car...he brought it over from Bahrain when he came to school. That is the other issue with the car, he hasn't done any of the paper work to make it legal in the US, so I don't know what that would cost.
He said he just wants to sell it (money is a non issue with him)...so he is asking 25K...I don't know him real well, but my friend does says he is a honest guy. I don't know any of the history of the car other than what I have posted earlier... And what is a PPI? Thanks again, Tony |

The mods alone are worth over 25K. I have also read that the 3.5 is a lttle risky. The respected engine builders stick with the 3.4 P&C's in most cases. It sounds to good to be true at 25K. Just my 2 cents.

Yea, I really need to check out the car, but after meeting the guy, I think he just wants to get it off his hands and to a good home...he has already turned down several buyers just cause he didn't want them to own the car. So, I don't think he is trying to offload a lemon.
I will post more info after I talk to him again. Thanks again, Tony |

Tony -
He may be trying to find a good home for it. I want to be honest, don't be offended, but you are taking your comfort based on what he is telling you, which could be less than 100% true. I'm a cynic, but if you're going to throw down $25,000 you must be careful. There has to be a solid reason for rebuilding an engine after only 15,000 miles. I believe the loophole to federalize non-US cars has been effectively closed. Be positive you can license the car before you buy. A PPI is a pre-purchase inspection. Take the car to a mechanic intimately familiar with 911 turbos THAT YOU SELECT, pay him to slavishly go over the car and list every defect with estimated cost to repair. An absolute must-have for a car like this. If it needs another engine rebuild, you're looking at five-digit costs. In my opinion, "too high-profile" doesn't smell right, nor does the rest of the story. Caveat emptor: Buyer beware!!!

Yea, I know what you mean, and I will have the car checked out...I used to work for a porsche race shop that I am still good friends with the owner.
I was mainly trying to get info on these cars and to get some ballpark figures on what one of these can and should cost. I figured the price was way low...and I have not had a chance to ask him why it got a new engine after only 15K... I appreciate any more info on these cars and what to look for if I do get to the point of having it checked. Thanks, Tony |
