Custom tach from North Hollywood
I've always liked the work that North Hollywood has done for me. So I sent them the tach from my '86 to do some custom work in prep for my 3.6 installation.
I've always run my track 911's with the tach turned so that at 6800 the tach needle is pointed straight up, and of course that's put the blinkers at odd angles. And I've always hated the DOT mandated upshift light too. Decided to do something about those and more... ![]() Sorry for the off center pic, hard to take a pic straight on without a reflection off the glass. The only thing wrong I can live with since I'm the only one who will see it- I asked for script that said "Carrera" to mimic the "Carrera RS" script they have on their website. Hate being a fake but everything else they did was perfect, and functionally the redline at 7200, and yellowline from 6800-7200 as I requested, with 7000 at 12:00, and the upshift light blanked out, it's all good.

I also like it!!! I had NHS redo all of my gauges a few years back. I had purchased a aftermarket VDO eliminator tach, which has a small shift light in the tach dial. It also sweeps from the 6 O'clock to the 2 O'clock position. I had NHS redo the face of it to match the other gauges they did..... absolutely perfect job!!! It looks factory ( except for the custom color)

Hartmut and the guys do great work. I've had them do multiple things for multiple cars, and they always send back a high quality product.

Several have PM'd asking what it cost. $180 shipped back to me.
The options that added up- 8000 rpm range 7200 redline Needle clocked for 7000 straight up 6800-7200 yellow line (looks orange in the pic) Carrera script Blank out the idiotic Carrera upshift light And it looks like they put a new piece of glass on too, mine had a scratch on it. I considered having them add a 1" red light at the 3:00 position to either run a low oil pressure light or a shift light. But in the end I decided not to. But they could do that or a small clock.

That's very reasonable considering the results. Well done!

Resurrecting this one...
Ed - Thanks for posting a pic of your NHS reworked-tach. NHS has my gauges currently, and after looking at your tach, I asked them reorient 7K RPM to 12 o'clock and cover up the shift light. Thank you!

I am about to take out my speedometer and have NHS rotate the face to actually see functional speeds, plus put a dual MPH and KPH scale on it. I thought that might be a challenge, but looking at these results it should be a piece of cake for them.
I'm happy this thread has been resurrected.

Looks nice! I just had mine done at NHS also and they did a great job. I guess preferences vary but I kept my shift light - I ignore it at low RPM's but at redline I find it useful out of the corner of my eye for shifting at the track with alot of other stuff going on and when engine sound is not tell tale...

I decided to change it up slightly. With all that space on the right hand side, I'm going to extend it out to 10K and put the red line between 7000-7200

You might want to check out the other options NHS can do for your gauges. I had them do this to mine:

Kurt - Wow - that looks great. Really nice finish to yours. Have you been pleased with it?
I thought about adding a sub-gauge to the tach, but decided to have New Vintage USA convert my Oil Temp/Pressure gauge to one of their quad gauges, adding CHT and Voltmeter. In my opinion, one of the signature aspects of a 911 is the big, central tach, and I'd like to maintain that ![]()
