Rs door panels vs locks question.

I want to do something like an early RS panel but nothing seems to have a provision for door locks. I know the RS america does but wondering if there are any ideas, something I am missing that's a more "early" solution than uses the mechanics of the sc door locks.

Thanks.

I dont know if this is what you are looking for but I made these a few months back and have really liked them.

RS style door pannels, a fiberglass project

Regards
Dave

It's not ad much the door panel, but the lock knob on the inside. Trying to go minimal, but how else can I actuate the locks without the stock round knob?

Yes. Exactly. Rs panels have no lock solution. I would post a pic but I am on my phone.

I know you can cut a hole in any door panel, but the point is finding another solution.

You can ditch the round knob and just use what the earlier cars had, which was the little post that sticks up through the upper door trim. Use a longer one, perhaps one with a mushroom shaped head, if theft isn't much of a concern where you drive the car. The linkage is easily changed.

I've added a simple $36.00 keyless entry that has worked flawlessly for many years.

Perhaps one thing to consider is deleting all the parts allowing the door to be locked/unlocked from the inside (one can still lock/unlock from the outside).

When I did my app-biz door panels several years back, I removed the ability to lock/unlock the door from the inside as I never used it. I always lock/unlock from the outside and while in or operating the car the doors simply remained unlocked.

As coincidence would have it, I am messing with the doors today. I never got instructions with my panels on how to mount the door pulls and so I was never able to mount the door pulls based upon the hardware provided with the kit. I really want to have the door pulls so I'm tearing it all apart again to figure out a way to mount them.

Duh. Have a post that sticks up, so simple. Thanks.

Also the total interior locking delete makes sense too since you must use the keys anyway to lock it. And inside the only it time I lock it is to rest my arm where the post is. Passenger would be slightly annoying, but rarer.

Thanks for ideas!

I don't live in a big city, but I rarely lock the doors. I use an anti theft device on the steering wheel and don't leave anything valuable in the car.

That way the car isn't convenient to steal (if they want to nothing will stop them anyway) and a potential thief wont have to break anything to get into the car... to find nothing of value...
