New 1987 911 Owner (So CA)...Ecstatic!...Thanks Auto Kennel and TLG Auto!

Hi everyone, just purchased a 1987 911 Coupe from the fine folks at Auto Kennel in Costa Mesa, it was (almost) exactly what I had been looking for and for some time. A good pal and riding (yes, motorcycles) friend of mine who happens to be co-owner of TLG Auto (a long-time P-car shop in No. Hollywood, I'm sure many here are familiar) went and looked at the car on my behalf and gave me the thumbs up. I had been looking for an all-original (incl. paint), low mileage 911 coupe (46k on mine), garage kept, with all maintenance records, preferably a California car, in white, and that is what i found (mine has the marine blue interior). Every decal, sticker, plate is in place, there are remnants of cosmoline around the sunroof area, all lights and buzzers are operational, and rubber seals and trim pieces in tact The interior has light wear (driver seat) but the door sills and carpeting are in great shape. I drove about 100mi. yesterday, it tracks perfectly and runs great. As for me, I am not new to Porsche cars (owned a 996 and 997), but this is my first air-cooled 911, and a model that I have loved since my teenage days (more than a few decades ago!). Paul's professionalism and knowledge coupled with his awesome boutique (Auto Kennel), and Marco's constant vigilance in hope of finding me the right car, are the reason i'm writing this today (well, that and I sold off a couple of motorcycles to make this happen). I plan on giving it to Marco and TLG Auto to do a post-purchase inspection, have the fluids changed, and look into a rattle (first gear, at take off, i've done some forum reading, doesn't seem like anything major).

What do I not like about the car? The oem steering wheel, but I'm trying to track down a SC wheel to replace it.

Was hoping to get out to the swap meet this morning but I had made two-wheeled riding plans prior to, will hopefully attend the "coffee 'n cars" next Saturday or the following.

Off to the garage I go.....talk soon,

Welcome and congrats on the Carrera.

TLG repaired my transmission, did a great job, Marco and Tony really took care of me.

Very nice. I just picked up my first air-cooled Porsche myself last month. It is also an '87. I can't get enough of driving it. I feel your joy.

It would be a shame if one of those bikes decided to obey gravity.

sent the car via flatbed (thanks Frank's Towing!) over to TLG auto as there is no one I would trust more than Marco and his father to perform a post purchase inspection on the car. Marco set up the transport, and once the car arrived at the shop he immediately reviewed it, the service receipts from the last twenty five years, and the list I had sent him on items that needed review. with the exception of a small oil leak coming from above the timing chain box area, he was pleased with what he saw, and will do the valves, belts, fluids, filters and the like so to have a new benchmark (peace of mind for me).

at least i'll have the work week to keep me busy......

Welcome back to the family, my friend. Looking forward to seeing your new gem run in its proper habitat after the check up is complete. We'll have to find an excuse to put some miles on it. Congrats!!

another shot of the car, then some some shots of the engine compartment area (in the hands of Marco Gerace at TLG Auto)....he found the oil leak i mentioned to him (cam feed line), and he suggested the replacement of the distributor cap and rotor....he did think the relay panel was extra clean though!
