Identifiying OEM exhaust studs?
I am trying to determine whether the top end has been done on this car-Long story short, its a car with no history beyond the last 4 years, and no record of engine work in that time, but the mileage suggests it is very near needing a top end refresh.
It runs well with no smoke,or funny noises. Looking at the picture,I notice an interesting combination of studs/bolts on the head/exhaust, and a cleaner than one would expect cyl head. Looking for some tips on whether those are OEM bolts holding the manifold in place,or a sign that it has been apart? I'm trying to decide whether to pay about $1k more than I want to for this car,and if my suspicions are correct then I can see the extra value. Cheers! ![]() |

It doesn't appear as though the bolts have been off that cat in a long, long time either. You could remove the cat and muffler as a single unit, but it would be a hassle. The only thing that looks too clean for having not been apart is that tensioner cover.

Too many issues to risk it on this one, plus the owner is a PITA. I'm gonna hold out for a better example. Was hoping this might shed some light on things.
Thanks All! |
