Cost to Powder Coat Fan & Housing

Am thinking of having my fan & housing powder coated

What is a typical cost for the bead blast and coating?

Any issues that I should be concerned about?

A super nice guy in So Cal - Mark Motshagen does the refinishing.
See here:
FS: 5R fan and housing

His work is perfect and the best around.

Highly recommended.

I have bene frustrated by this...my fan is powdercoated and it is chipping on the leading edges of the blades after only a few hours of runnning. It looks good from afar, but I know its there so it bothers me.

Same thing with paint attempts.

Maybe it isn't balanced?
Contact Mark and have him redo it. Read the thread and the lengths he goes too restoring the fan and housing.

I had mine done near Akron.

Rack Coating Svc Incorporated
(330) 854-2869
5760 Erie Ave N, Canal Fulton, OH 44614

Mine were sandblasted with no issues. This is not a boutique shop. I would call it industrial. I saw tube framed race car chassis being done there along with plenty of non-automotive stuff.

They did about two dozen parts for me. Total cost $300 and I had to buy a tub of chrome powder material for $50 for my 81 intake runners and they gave me the left over (lots of it) material. The other colors were red and black.

I hand sanded the tips of the fan down to the metal to make sure there was clearance and have had no chipping issues on any of the parts.

I can get you pics if you would like to see the work. Also could help you interface with them as I have been there several times with other projects and they know me pretty well.

Assuming a clearance issue that changes with load if you did not hear / see scraping when it first was put back together.

a buddy had this done as did I, I had clear paint of some sort, holding up well, he had red powder coat and is chipping. I think the quality of the prep. is very important. You might consider going the Gibbs Oil route, ends up looking very nice and doesn't chip/etc. There is a recent Gibbs thread running.

My Powder Coater, PowderTech Plus Inc. charges around $50 to strip & coat the fan & housing, and they have been doing them for years.. They have done them for all my engines and I currently have a fan there right now going from a color back to a stock finish.

My fan about 4 years ago. Rattle can red. Prepped and applied in 1998. Leading edges are worn, but that's it. Housing is powder-coated silver.

If you want a perfect fan, contact Mark.

No, on the leading edges, not on the shroud edges.
