1969 911 E Glove Box won't unlock
I just purchased a 1969 911E and the lock won't open, tho' my ignition keys fit (cylinder won't turn). Are all glove box locks the same, using the exact same key, or do you use the ignition key? What does the designation "#2 C#107" mean? (saw this in an eBay ad) Sorry for the ignorance, but I gotta start somewhere. steve meltzer

they are typically keyed to use the same key as ignition. It is however not uncommon for the ignition switch to have been replaced in these cars over the years, so you ignition key may not match any more. does you ignition key work in the door locks or bonnet lock? If your door key is different than the ignition, try it instead. it is also common for the lock tumblers to get sticky over time. you may try lubricating the lock and working the key in and out a few times to see if that helps.
edit: there is also a valet key that will have the same cut for the tumblers, but will have a different key blank, so that could also be the issue. |

this is great! all of this excellent advice! Turns out that the key truly doesn't unlock the lock but the door opened when I realized it was being held closed by a magnet...not the lock!
So now, I can remove the lock from the glove box but where would I get a key made for this? Locksmith, I guess. It's not critical, but would be nice to have locking lock box for a decent price. thanx again. steve

I think all you need is a skeleton key blank and have it cut from your valet key. My 81SC came with 2 keys: a black (skeleton) key that opens doors, ignition and glove box lock, and a red (valet) key that only opens door and ignition so a valet can't open the glove box. As mentioned before, both keys have the same cuts, but the key blanks are different. So I would just get an appropriate black or skeleton key blank, and have a reputable locksmith cut it from your valet key and the new key should also open your glove box. The only thing I'm not certain of is when Porsche started using black and red key heads. Check out what key blanks your car has, but my guess is it had two as I described for my 81SC.

thanx again for the info....I have only one key...the one that is for the ignition and the doors. that's it. no valet key, blank key, etc. maybe one of the recommended lock/key guys can figure it out. not critical. s
