Where's smuggler's box
I've seen a few post describing a smuggler's box for subwoofers and batteries.
Exactly where is this "smuggler's box" located? Any history or stories on how it got its name

Open your trunk and remove your carpet. Just aft of the spare tire is a door. On some early cars, there was a gasoline heater in there, My 82 has some air conditioning parts in there, and the air horns for my aftermarket alarm.
As to the name, If you were planning on smuggling something, that would probably be a good place to put it. Tom |

The smugglers box is in the front trunk. Remove the carpet and look for a small door between the gas tank and the passenger's compartment. This was used for the optional gas fired heater which was available for the early cars. It was an empty bos if your car did not have the heater (most shipped to the US did not have the heater. Given its unobtrusive location under the carpeting, you could put something in it and no one would be the wiser...
The box is used for a component of the A/C system in newer cars.

Thanks Tom/Tom for the directions. I'll open it this weekend, maybe there's something interesting inside
