1982 911 oil pressure switch
Hello guys, got my oil pressure switch today the one with the red boot for my gauge light that comes on after driving awhile. also just wanted to ask my light is red not green when it comes on is that right? where the heck is this switch on my engine? If any of you have a full picture that would help me out and is it easy to get at? seems it would be, pull top lead off, unscrew then screw new one in put connection back on, done. Thanks guys

The oil light switch is located on top of the engine r/s (looking at the engine) near the breather cover. It's not easy to get at on a 82sc. You may want to do a partial engine drop. Look in the technical section of the pelican site they explain in detail how to do a PED.

Oil pressure switch........

The oil pressure switch is NC (normally closed) and grounded when the engine is not running. When you turned the ignition switch to ON position, the indicator light/lamp will be lit. You can test the switch by using a dull pin to test it. When you start the engine, the oil pressure produced by the oil pump inside the engine will push/press the switch and open the ground contact, thus causing the lit indicator lamp to turn off. This is the basic operation of the oil pressure switch. It takes a second or two for the switch to work after the engine starts to run. You could perform a manual test by disconnecting the brown wire connected to the oil pressures switch while the ignition SW is @ ON position. Perform the basic test before you could troubleshoot the problem if any. BTW, do not confuse the oil light switch with the alternator charging indicator. Keep us posted. Tony |

hi tucson..you can do the oil press switch without partial drop of the engine.I have suggested-offered to you in an earlier post .That is if you like i can give tuto how to do it...

gome..it is about patience ..i have done plenty like that, pain in a butt ...but doable;-)unfortunately my arms are a little on the thick side due to playing hockey;-)

tucson here is the tuto...
1st .you remove the rubber air booth. 2nd get your self a nice solid mirror..it will help you to see and locate the switch... 3rd.if you have engine compartment heater motor remove it with the bracket.,the bracket has sharp edges and it does not feel good to work around it. 4th.i used 1/2 inch 2 extensions ..or if you have the correct size one, and with the 24mm socket on the end unscrew the oil press switch ,lift it with magnet. 5.to install new switch either get your self a solid-strait rubber hose which fits on the top of the oil pressure switch.This way you can guide it there a ketch the thread on the engine case. Or you can put some a/c dum dum inside the socket so the switch holds in it.and try to find the thread this way. .not very difficult but like i said patience is necessary. The metal vacuum pipe makes it really tough. On mine the pipe partially overlaid one side of the switch because the CIS mounts were sagged so it was very difficult/impossible to get the socket on. Partial drop and you might be able to pull it off. I ended up removing the whole CIS to get to mine. No big deal for me because it needed a refresh anyway. And I have skinny arms

And.......DO NOT overtighten. It will leak if you do. I believe torque is 15lb/ft. Check it though.
