Targa Question
Any advise on stiffening up a targa. I noticed that Pelican is offering some braces. Has anyone tried these?

I have a strut tower brace and a harness bar in my 83 Targa.
The harness bar is used to add some stiffness to the Targa's upper section, it helps. |

Just to clarify, the brace is not for the struts, but is actually a pair of braces which seem to connect between the roll bar seat belt connection and the floor seat belt connection on each side.

I use a bolt in roll cage for track events. The cage attaches in the front to two boxes which were fabricated and welded to the door silll where it meets the front kick panels. The cage may be more than you are looking to due but it takes care of the body flex.

Those braces which connect the seat belt mounts together appear to be all but useless, unless someone can show me data to the contrary...

I agree about those weld-in plates being useless for stiffening the Targa chassis. To do it right, you would need to make (weld) reinforcements to the rocker panels. Another area of concern is the top. Ideally, you would custom fabricate a solid (aluminum?) targa top as well. I can't believe the increases in body flex you get just by removing the stock folding top! It becomes even more exagerated when you stiffen up the suspension.
