Whats this?

Under my drivers seat on my 88 Carrera there is a brass cylinder ( bell like ) next to the DME. What is it? Its vibrating like crazy is there a way to tighten it up, to stop the vibration noise?

The exact name escapes me right now but it is your altitude sensor. Is the base secured to the deck and something inside is rattling around? I think it is a single unit so inside rattling (mine doesn't) I doubt can be tightened. Try putting a piece of carpet foam under it to see if that padding doesn't isolate it a bit. Also looks like the DME is touching it, are you sure those two aren't vibrating off each other?

That is the altitude sensor - as for stopping it from vibrating ??? solid motor/trans mounts and remove sound deadening material

Is the altitude sensor designed to be loose or should it be solid? The top and bottom are loose and spin the mount for the sensor in secure. I moved the DME so it does not touch no difference. There is a screw on top but it feels like it's attached to a spring inside the sensor. I don't want to break it. It never was a problem before, so weird.

if the round cylindrical part is loose in the mounting bracket, apply a couple dabs of silicone caulking to the joint and that should take care of it
