Something might have actually changed in Wyoming..

www.early911porsches.com

If this has already been posted, I am sorry that I missed it. I never made up to Sheridan to see Jon's collection, but from the look of things, it is being sold off.
YMMV

Send a message via AIM to Gogar
It was posted already and there is an ad on thesamba. It appears that -someone- did actually buy all of the cars and is finally selling them. I did notice that the new email address is markedly similar to the old one, but that doesn't mean much.

I am very skeptical of this "change".

For those of us not in the know and looking for a car - would someone expand on the story a bit? Skepticism? Thanks

Keeping it simple:

The cars exist
He spends a ton of time running ads for the cars
The guy sounds normal when you speak with him
but in the end you will not be successful buying anything from him
He is a total psycho

I exchanged emails with him for a few days last week. I wanted a price on a car that wasn't priced and a tiny bit of information on another car. The first thing he told me was to come up and see the cars. I told him I would like to know some facts before I got the trailer out of storage and borrowed a truck. He told me that if I'm not willing to travel to buy a car that I should get one in Denver. We went around and around about this. He eventually told me that the price is non negotiable because the Europeans are stupid enough to buy them for whatever he says. Let's do exactly that, let the Europeans supposedly buy them and let this d bag have to sit on these cars for a while. They are honestly not even good prices on the cars, I mean most of the look pretty used up and over priced. Remember, he was kicked off pelican. I only buy from pelicans now.

Hi
I am one of those stupid Europeans. To me the prices are to high for what you get. I tried email contact for an unpriced item but was eventually after several attempts told the car was probably purchased by someone in England, it is still advertised. Although cars are relatively cheap in USA compared to Europe you have to take into account moving the car to a port $500, shipping to Europe including port costs East coast $1500 West coast $2000. On arrival in Europe 20% tax on purchase price plus shipping, then some duty charges. Then you have transport cost to your final destination. All this on a car that you have only seen in pictures and an "honest" description by the seller. Yes it is safer to buy from the Pelican community and overall there are bargains to be had but I do not see any in Wyoming.

End of rant, I am now climbing off my soap box.

Anybody here catch an episode or two of "American Pickers" on Discovery Channel? You will see some interesting characters if you do, many with this psychological fixation on collecting things, in many cases to sell for increased value, but finding it very hard to actually make a sell decision.
The Picker pair, get past this in many cases by buying one thing from this person, usually at his asking price, even though it is not a profitable purchase. That in many cases starts the selling process up & the person parts with more than he would have other wise.
I think we have a guy like this here. He's not a jerk, just has this kind of fixation on these cars and parts of cars...
If I am correct, it will take a skilled buyer, face to face, perhaps for multiple visits, to establish the selling condition.

Edit> sorry they are on the history channel. http://www.antiquearchaeology.com/

There are many people who are basically hoarders (in this case of items that have value as opposed to horaders to collect garbage--literally). Their entire sense of being/self worth revolves around the control they can wield and attention they can get by possessing things that others want---if they were to actually sell or get rid of the items that others desire, their self worth and "reason for being" is gone......................My Psychology lesson for the day!

Is it me, or are those prices on the site way out of line? I mean, $15K for a project?

they claim the blue $35K 72 has a rebuilt engine by me. i serviced the car for many years, but i don't think i ever did the engine. the owner died and someone, maybe this guy, recently bought it for $20K. nice car though.

I would be shocked if anyone was able to get this guy to part with these cars as long as he is alive. Many skilled porsche people have tried and failed. I offered him full price for a SS rear muffler skirt for a LWB car and he agreed to sell it. Then he wouldn't return my calls to make payment. Every week he posts four to five cars on Samba for sale, I doubt he has ever parted with one in over 8 years. I think he has more than a fixation with collecting. I think he lives in his own special world.

And he's back to pelican. He is going by telefunkenu47 or something like that. What I mean about the prices is that in an apples to apples comparison they seem to fall short of what you would get for the same ammount of money. A lot of them need paint and body work but are priced closer to the price of a nice shiny one. I would rather take my chances on eBay than go up and see this guy. At least you can assume the eBay sellers want to sell the car that is up for auction.
