				Weeping lower valve covers

Before I reinstall rebuilt alternator and cleaned-up fan assembly, wondering if others have seen similar leakage and what was the culprit? Oil return tubes look to be clean. Bracing myself here for broken studs.... The "drivers side valve cover" photo appears to be return tubes to me. Most of the oil comes out of the cam tower and straight down, not on the return tubes. Often looks like weeping valve covers when it's not. Get the green viton seals to go with the collapsable tubes. Pull off the bottom valve covers to check the head studs, that is where they break. You may want to re-torque your intakes, assuming the engine has been apart, it probably isn't anything to be concerned about.

Next time you adjust the valves, take the valve covers and lay them on a plate of glass to see if they are warped. Very common. Upgrade to turbo valve covers.

I agree with Greg. Top side looks like dust collecting. I would remove the valve covers to inspect the studs. Try using a torque wrench on each nut to be certain they're not loose or ready to break. Sometimes the top covers warp and leak down through the cam box. I would remove all covers, check the head nuts first, valve adjustment, use a straight edge to check covers for warping, clean everything and reassemble. Use the gasket kit with the silicone bead on the lower gaskets. Lose the catalytic convertor.

he already has them. I would clean the oil up with a degreaser or steam, drive it a little, and see if you can tell where the leak is coming from.

Good suggestion to sand flat. However, he already has the turbo valve covers.

Could be rocker shafts leaking and coming down through the cam boxes. This is happening to me right now...

Thanks everyone. The bolts on the intakes with blackened areas definitely needed snugging up, along with all the valve cover bolts...couldn't get a torque wrench in there so just snugged them up...6 ft-lbs! Will degrease and see if this solved it...and yes kodioneill, I will lose that catalytic soon! Thanks John
