I found out today that my 78 SC has dealer added air, not factory air as I previously thought. I am going to try to get the airconditioning working again and I need some help trying to figure out where hoses need to be connnected or holes need to be made. All parts are factory pcar parts. How does the air flow in the evaporator area. Any pictures would be great.

Plain,
Where are you located? Personally I would contact either Griffiths (www.griffiths.com) or any good air conditioning shop in your area. Griffiths is not cheap but his stuff is good quality. Look in the back of the Pano mag for several people working on or selling A/C stuff... JA |

Hello
Just read the recent threads and hopefully some guys with a camera can upload the pictures from the cutouts in the passenger footweel. Also Pelican shows the spare parts on exploided view ( 3 charts ). Grüsse |

I've got some information from Griffiths and the print outs from Pelican, unfortunately the printouts are from the 75/76 911 for dashes w/o the center vent. I believe I figured out the way the dealer installed/ran the cool air hose, but I would like to know how the factory did it also. I'm hoping someone will take a couple of pics and post them or at least explain where the hoses are supposed to be ran.

Guys -HOLD ON ON ORDERING FROM GRIFFITH!!
My car was a testing pig for his prototype A/C system. Charlie was very nice and did all the work in a professional way. However, after about 2 weeks, the A/C stoped working and when I brought the car over for the inspection, Charlie Griffith said it is an electrical fault and he will charge me $100 TO INSPECT IT.....I mean come on...it was working before the istallation (electrical) and should be working after. Obviously his installation caused the problem. So now he is not even backing up his work... stay tuned for update on this! |

Hello
As far I remember the installation he neednīt to touch any electrics. It was just replacing the lines and adding on the rear condensor. So he might didnīt touched the electrics and doesnīt feel responsible for the failure. Now I see both points but a estimate or a quick troubleshoot should run under "costumer relations service". Now your problem is the the griffits installation is maybe not documentet for other mechanics and you feel deadlocked. OTOH; Sometimes you have to make a point to some people, if not you start working for free or even worser. I canīt judge that and it will not help anyone. We can try to go trough a troubleshoot it here and maybe nail the problem. Well save you the 100$ and maybe more or less other things. To start with your compressor; it did receive the griffiths pressure cutout switch so it will not engage the clutch if the pressure ist to high or to low. EPA will see that and it will protect your hardware. If your compressor isnīt engaged you maybe have the failure there. If you jump the switch and the clutch jumps in the switch is the problem or the low pressure. Both things are the business from the installer and I would say runing under waranty. To leave the jumper in to run the AC as this can force big trouble. If you have a light probe or a Voltmeter you neednīt touch any parts from griffiths. If you have no power on the clutch cable you have to look to the Porsche hardware. Now wounīt go into details but if someone has the complete system apart he can test the basics. A feiling switch or relay can come soon after even if you checked a/o cleaned them. The Ranko switch can be the failured part or the fuse is blown. Grüsse |
