Hood Crest Question- No, Not Orange vs. Red

When did the crest go from flat to rounded? My '87 had a flat one that was faded. I replaced it with a newer one that was likely a 996 part number (2001 purchase). I recall that the newer crests have a raised/rounded surface.

I donated the old one to dad's resting place, as he was a big fan of all things German. He was really into cars & boats and was a really good wrencher from what I recall as a kid. So I think he would have really gotten a charge out of the Porsche hobby I stumbled across.

Don't any of you punks try to go out and steal that crest. I put it on with Liquid Nails about 8 yrs ago and that sucker's still holding strong!!!

I couldn't think of a more low, despicable act than to steal a crest from a place like that.

I think it was with the introduction of the Boxster and hence the 996 the following year.

That makes sense, mine is round so it must be replacement because my buddy with his originally owned 84 has a flat crest.

BTW, what a wonderful memorial, my compliments sir!

Thanks for the comments on the crest shape. That's always nagged at me for some reason.

Kids steal all kinds of crap from cemeteries. That's just what they do. Low & despicable is not necessarily part of their vocabulary at that age? Dad's spot on the crypt wall is at the very bottom, so they don't have to work too hard to get at it!
