What Year is it? '65 or '66?
My 911 Project has the VIN # 303201. Porsche COA say its a 1966 911. Most literature I see on VIN # Shows 300001 - 303391 as 1965 911's ?
1966 911 starts at 303391? What's the deal? I am sure Porsche is correct, so I have a 1966 MY. Was it build in '65, and sold as a '66 MY? |

Yes, a 1966 model built in 1965. Generally any VIN over about 302000 is likely a 1966. Paint codes are generally 66xx, knee pad wraps up the ends of the dash, large ignition bezel.
303391 is end of calendar year 1965 production.

My car was October 14, 1965, VIN 302455. It is a model year 1966, manufacture year 1965. If built in '65, the car should have had Solex carburetors and a bevy of other details that were retired right around the first week of January 1966.
This is a VERY well travelled and oft debated topic over on the Early S. Here's ultimate reference thread: http://www.early911sregistry.org/forums/showthread.php?40956-Final-tread-on-transition-from-65-66-model-yr!&highlight=transition+year
