Engine weights
Can anyone out there tell me how much a 911 motor weighs- which motor? Heck I'll take any info I can get. A friend and I are having a debate about power output vs engine weight as to which motors are more efficient. Thanks!!

Street engines, stock? IN 2002, I'd guess something Japanese. No idea which. Back up 30 years or so, I'd guess either German or Italian?

When I picked up my '78 3.0 from the shipper, I asked them to put it on the scale, pallet and all. It came out to about 450 lbs. So the motor probably weighs about 425 lbs +/-.

The early (69-71) 911T engines weighed 176 kg / 387.2 lbs and the 911 E/S engines weighed 182 kg/400 lbs.

I weighed an 1989 3.2 with muffler and it came to 418# on the pallet. The pallet was 40# so the engine weighed 378lbs.

My California smogged 930 weighed in at a trim 529 pounds.
I like to bring this little tidbit up every time someone knocks the SBC conversion. Engine power to weight ratio? I'd vote motorcycle or anything supercharged/turbocharged. |
Speaking of HP to weight ratio, the engine in my waverunner puts out 125 hp and I can pick it up and carry it around. I figure that is less that 1 pound per HP, that is going to be tough to beat.

Is that a 2 stroke or 4 stroke motor?
