Hand Brake (E Brake) Warning Light

Has anyone any experience with a hand brake light that stays on constantly.

The contacts in the handbrake of my 86 Cab are either worn or out of adjustment. Has anyone fixed this problem before and what are the steps, tricks or procedures.

Thanks

How long has this been on? The same lamp is also the brake pad wear indicator. Check your brake pads....it may be time for a replacement! Also, check your brake fluid level. These warning lamps are multitasked and could tell you a lot of info about your brakes! It may not be the e-brake at all, although mine does not light with the brake on....perhaps I need to look into this!

It is the E brake, as the light goes out when the lever is moved, on an 86 the pad wear light is separate.

Just hoping someone has tackled this before?

It the end this turned out to be a simple adjustment. There is a position screw on the handbrake lever that adjusts the switch contact position. A quick adjustment and it was fixed.
