77 930 Oil Pup Pickup Tube Filter- Removeable?

Hope some of you who have been inside of earlier engines can help-

1977 930- Removed sump plate and two small pieces of plastic chain rail in the sump- Just a bit too wide to sneak out around the oil pump filter unit- From looking at pictures it appears that the sump filter is just pressed on the end of that elbow tube- Before I break anything- Is that the case? Anybody know-

Would prefer not to oil the engine back up with plastic in the sump to get it over to my guy to replace the chain rail guides.

Thanks in advance.

OK- but I have seen pictures of oil pumps with NO filter on the end of the tube- so the question is... is the screen filter- the mushroom thing at the end- permanently affixed to the pickup tube.

Different year pumps did not have attached screens like my original 72 did not.

Fair enough- But MINE DOES- and does anyone know if the screen assembly is merely press fit onto the end of the tube.

a stock '77 should have the soft concave screen that comes off easily. if it was rebuilt with a later carrera pump that has the hard convex screen, then it does not come off. pictures would be good.

Yes engine was rebuilt and it does appear to have the later Carrera type screen- Wonder how to fish out the bits of plastic in the sump??
