1990 C4 with 54 K on the clock. A week ago a grinding noise started only when I am backing up at low speed turning left. No noise or problem backing straight or going forward at speed. Local indy took quick look and nothing remarkable. Going back in this week to sort it out. Any thoughts or prior experience with similar condition before the wrenches start turning on the C4 and my wallet. Info here and on Rennlist indicates everything from debris to CV joints and beyond. Lastly, any recommendations on an indy in Tampa Fl area. I'm familiar with Vortex, ex Dave White Racing, but others include Autobahn, Tampa and European Auto Haus. Thanks all. I would visually inspect the rubber boots on the CV joints (inner and outer) ... If you see black lubricant sprayed around the boot area, you know what your problem is.
Good luck.

I had a sporadic horrible noise from my 93 C2. A friend suggested that I may have a rock or other debris between a brake rotor and the dust shield. Pulled a wheel off, applied a little pressure to the (a bit flexible) metal dust shield and out fell two small rocks.
Cheap and easy fix (rare, I know...).
