Sounds like cam chain hitting the housing. Either bad cam chain tensioner or a chain ramp busted up. Either way, no more running the engine until you get it fixed!

hmm my mechanic recently fixed that problem. Why would it happen again?

Haven't watched the vid but the cam sprockets have to go on a specific way depending on which side. One side is flat and the other is cupped.

oooh...that sounds ugly. I wouldn't run it any longer without having it checked. Hopefully not a major repair. What kind of air filter intake is that?:confused:

thank you very much for the responses. In the movie it cannot be heard easily but let me explain how it goes. During idle the noise is not so much. When you push the gas a little bit upto 2-2.5 RPM and let it go back to idle, the chain noise is so obvious.
But when you drive the car (I found out this noise while driving on Sunday and did not even start the car till then), I mean during stable RPMs, the noise is not there and everything sounds normal. The only noise can be heard during when the engine goes down to idle. As far as I read through the forums, this means that the tensioners are not totally collapse but they will soon. Now, I know you dont know whether both of the tensioners are bad ot not but still, should I replace both of them or the one that is faulty? Is there a way to save them at this point? Is replacing the only way out? By the way, I dont know if he changed them or not. He told me that he fixed it. I will ask him though. Kagan |
the air filter is a silly aftermarket one, I know :). I am trying to go back to original but it is impossible to find the original one in Turkey. It is quite hard to find parts here, so it takes lots of my time to buy the items from US and ship them to here...

hmm I would try to record a better quality video when the mechanic checks the car. I will also check for any damage on the fan and around. I cannot be sure about that one. But I dont know which one is worse :).
Is it easy to check these on my own? Or would I definitely need the mechanic around? Because I do not want to start the car based on your evaluations. |
The symptoms that you describe in post #8 sound just like my 88 had. It was a failed tensioner.
I replaced both. It can be done with engine in car with some difficulty. |
