How much oil pressure should i get when cranking? (after rebuild)

Engine is back in, auxillaries have been fitted, but since I have a problem with my other weber the car is still not running.

But I am asking how much oil pressure should the oil pressure gauge show when cranking. I need to know before I give the car a spark.

I cranked..well quite a lot, and the gauge just slightly moved when I cranked the engine. What should I see?

Ah, you ever noticed how hot the ground wire gets at the front compartment. Well at least it did get hot with my old ground wire. I replaced it with a new wire and now it won't get hot at all. If yours gets hot, replace it.

Sorry I don't know the answer to your question Zenlander, wish I could. I've heard that using white lithium assembly lube can really gum up an engine later on. Mabye the head pressure limiting valve is stuck open/closed or the gauge is bad. You could pull the sender out and use a screw-in type.
Good tip with the oil-prime and ground tips, I'm gonna go check on mine.

I thought I'd add that I've heard of some systems that have the ignition coil that grounds through an oil pressure switch. That way the engine doesnt go past low cranking rpm until the pressure is up. Most of the wear is at startup.

The oil pressure light should go out after about a minute of cranking. If it doesn't, then don't start the engine.

You can then start cracking open things like valve covers to see if you're getting oil pressure while cranking...

You're cranking with the sparkplugs out, right? Silly to do it with the plugs in, if what you're trying to do is establish some oil pressure before first start. You shouldn't see much in any case; if the needle moves to show positive pressure, that's fine. Oil pressure is a function of engine speed, and if you're only turning the crank at whatever speed you can achieve with the starter motor, the pressure will be very slight--even slighter with the plugs in place.
