993 rear main seal

Im buying a 96 993 with a leaking rear main seal. The mechanic said its just weeping right now. The car has only been driven about 4000 miles in the past 3 years. Im considering driving it home (800 miles). Bad idea? Do these have a history of blowing all of a sudden or do they stay weeping for a long time and just get worse slowly?

There are many weeping rear main seals on the road today. If the clutch is not contaminated and slipping, you should be fine.
