At least as far as SUV's goes.
VW has released pictures and specs of their version of the shared platform SUV. Well, their version makes the Porsche version look a bit tacky in comparison, IMO. They got the details right for a clean, smooth look. The 300+ horsepower V10 turbodiesel and 6 speed manual sounds like a great combo. How did Porsche drop the ball on this (at least on paper)?

Not bad SUV styling
So *that* is what the original styling was ment to be.
Who ever decided to graft a 996 nose on the thing for the peppervaggen shoud be canned.

The VW is supposed to have an optional W12 motor (12 cylinder in a W pattern). That truly will one-up the Cayenne. -- Curt

This is nothing more than a Porsche plot to sell more VW SUVs (people's car) than Cayennes. Those who buy the VW can say "Its a Porsche with a VW emblem" Porsche will then pull the Cayenne after a couple of years due to poor sales, and we will be Cayenne free once again, and Porsche will continue to sell VWs . . . pretty well thought out

What really irks me is the immediate availability of a 6 speed manual gearbox in the VW. The Porsche is automatic only if I'm not mistaken. Why? Why?

I hate the idea of the Cayanne. But I wonder how you all would feel if it was used to run in the Paris - Dakar race? Would that make us feel as though Porsche hadn't lost it's "soul" after all?

A newspaper columnist here described the small Japanese SUV's as "CUBS" (Cheap Ugly Boxes)....I wonder, will the VW and Cayenne SUV's be dubbed "SUBS"? $pendy Ugly Boxes?
