Question lights dimming

? 86 carrera,
Notice lights dim and brighten at diff' rpms, didin't think too much of it, but recently installed a new amplifier for my door speakers and the speakers cut in and out, They sound and work fine w/ key on, but cut in and out when engine running. Any idea?

Maybe it could be something in your voltage regulator. Take a meter and put it in your cigarette lighter to see what the voltage is, would be nice if you could catch it when your lights are dimming...

Also diconnect the amp to see if the problem is related to that.

Voltage Regulator is likely. I had the same problem when engine was warm only. Very noticeable in the dark.

I hooked up a DMM to a modified cigarette lighter plug and used the cigarette lighter jack. When I drove it my first attempt, once the engine was warm the DMM would spike up to almost 16V but intermittently. I replaced the Voltage Regulator (rebuilt bearings on alternator while it was out) and problem was solved.
