3.2 leaking oil sender???

This oil sender sits in a notch right on top of the motor behind the throttle assembly. I've tried two new senders and "o" ring... Still puddling up... Any help?

There are 2 other potential sources up there, the crankcase breather (gasket) and the engine thermostat (O-ring). Can you check those?

Check your breather hose where it attaches to the crankcase breather ... If you can, disconnect it and cut off two or three inches and reclamp it back on !

Mine was cracked at the clamp and it took me a while to figure out where the oil was coming from because it only leaked under heavy load ...

Cheers !

The oil sender on top (idiot light) takes a sealing washer, either copper or aluminium not an "O" ring. My thermostat (next to the sender) was seeping, even after a new "O" ring, I ordered the GREEN one from our host and it stoped. I noticed it was harder to seat the Green one so the cross section must be a little different. Our host also has the hose, 33 bucks I think. PS- all oil senders are not equal, get a good one!

Go to page 12 of http://www.porsche.com/all/media/pdf/originalparts/usa/911_USA_74_77_KATALOG.pdf (CAT for your car)

#49 at the top of the illustration is the Oil Pressure Switch (for the idiot red light)

If you are talking about the Pressure Transmitter (for the pressure guage) it's # 47 at the bottom of the illustration

Doyou know if on an 88 Carrera, the inlet manifold needs to come out to get access to the breather hose and the gasket at the connector on top of the engine near the fire wall?
Thank you

The intake doesn't need to come out on an 88. On my 84 - I was able to do all of the normal fixes for oil leaks (idiot light, gasket, breather hose) without removing the entire intake.

You'll have to remove the airbox. I had the MAF box out as well, for more working room.

So remove the air box, MAF (optional) stick your head in and its all on your left?

With the air box and MAF gone are you able to get some sort of torque wrench on the oil switch? I know its important to get the torque right on this guy.

I have oil leak onto the cross over exhaust pipe, originating from down the back of the oil cooler. Suspect its the T.O.D.

Cheers
Ed.

Ed,

I don't think you'll be able to get a torque wrench on the oil switch, maybe a 3/8 flex handle one if you're lucky. You'll get a better view if you remove the MAF ...

I just used a ratchet to tighten mine down,no leaks !

Cheers !

Thermostat oil ring is leaking. Every Carrera I have seen lately has had this issue. Clean the area around the thermostat thoroughly, remove the thermostst & replace the black oring with a green one or red one. You will find the old oring to be hard as a brick.
