Frantz Oil Filter
my 1975 911S Project has one mounted in the trunk, anyone else have one of these?

If that's the type that uses a roll of toilet paper, it might be the reason your car is a project. They filter oil about as well as an oil filter will wipe your butt.

Actually, I could see having one in series with the standard filter. But, then again, there is no substitute for changing oil every 3000 miles. |
I don't think you meant to say you would put it in series. I have a bypass filter on my truck, and that type of setup might be good. It filters a quarter of the oil the full flow filter does and by passes the rest until next time around. You're right, I don't think I'd want a TP filter because of the small amount of oil passing through it.

I said it has it in the trunk, but it isn't hooked up. I may have mothballed the project for a few years, but glad I did, now I have a vision of what I want the car to be

Zeke,
I got this information from years of experience as a mechanic. While you are absolutely correct that it can filter effectively, toilet paper is not subjected to any sort engineering analysis for this purpose. I have seen an incidence where a roll broke up in the canister and shreds of tp clogged some oil passages and destroyed an engine. I don't think it's worth using a Porsche or any other car (with a few notable exceptions) as a guinea pig to determine which brands might work reliably and which will ruin your engine. Therefore I stand by my advice; use toilet paper and oil filters for their intended purposes. regards, Phil |
I bet its very good for filtering vegetable oil for a diesel, glad it isnt hooked up in my car
