New to Porsche 911

Last summer I bought my first Porsche, an '89 911 cab. I would like to start doing my own basic maintenance (purchased 101 projects for your 911 from this site). I want to order some brake pads but not sure what to get. The description says that it depends on whether or not I have a "glue on" sensor or a "slotted" type. How can I tell? Should I just take the wheel off and look? Thanks, Jon

Yes, take the wheel off and you will be able to tell. My 86 has the slotted. You may want to consider getting the bentley manual as well. Good luck, Tim

+1 on the Bentleys manual. It is pretty much a required reference.

First off welcome to the forum. Its always good to see people who want to take the initiative to do some work. If you dont already get your self a good jack and set of jack stands so you can do the job you desire here. If you are going to do the break pads consider bleeding the breaks while you are in there. A simple job but can make a big difference if your break fluid is old or there is air in the lines.

Some other jobs you may want to do
-spark plugs
-air filter
-fuel filter
-oil and oil filter
-distro cap and rotor
-fan belt (make sure to replace the washers)

Some more difficult yet do-able things and can really make a difference
-Suspension bushings
-break caliper rebuild and paint
-new break and fuel lines
-new shocks
-new Torsion bars
-new stereo if you are unhappy with the blankpurt (if its still there)

The list goes on but most of this is in the 101 book

Regards
Dave

Because its your first post we will let you slide .. but it is mandatory that you post pictures .. we need pictures .. not one .. but the plural of one ...

That way we can congratulate you or criticize you which ever is deemed necessary ...

Don't worry we will be positive ...

Congrats ...

Thanks

Thanks guys, I appreciate the input. I will post some pics as soon as I take the car out from winter storage, which will be in a couple of weeks. Jon

welcome...

pics are a great idea, even storage teaser pics...we all hate to wait for too long - get all nervous and stuff

second thing is we all love to spend your money....we really like to spend it

what type of plans do you have? Driving daily to work in the summer, special drives only, long trips?

The cars love to be driven, and those frequent trips to look at it to remind yourself its yours dont fade for years

Best of luck!
