Raced a mustang today
I was on my way to get some smokes, ran into a mustang on a straight stretch of road I was going about 35 when he pulled along side of me. I was in second already and I gunned, shifted into third right up to the red line and he was long gone. I guess he ran out of balls. I am so glad he backed off, while no one was around I realized how stupid this is. Oh yea by the way just kidding. Just trying to lampoon some of the idiotic threads posted here so they could be seen from a different vantage point.

You know, the second hand tobacco-combustion byproducts wafting from your car could give the 'Stang driver pneumo-carcinoma.
Not knocking you, just think how you would feel, him in the hospital and his ride getting dusty in the garage and all. ![]() |

O'boy- a different vantage point!
Well I'm just pissed as hell that you would even joke about taking your car up to red line.
Do you have any idea how dangerous that is. While you're happly looking at the little needle climb to thew red mark, some girlscout troop (out on a fieldtrip) may be crossing the highway, and BLAMO. . . you missed a shift. Then it hits you - you can nolonger afford to buy their cookies.

Ya know the sad part is I would really like to race on the street. Honestly, but when I see it done by others it pisses me off. I can definetly understand the temptation. The liability is just too great. I have had my cars up to high speeds (over 130 mph) at 2 am on a dead highway (still foolish). But the thought of a broad daylight duel, makes me cringe. I'm no whimp, i've done enough crazy stupid thing's to prove that to mysef. But watch the others and watch the news.
I'd love to get on the track, thats where it belongs. If anyone wipes out it was done with no disconcern of innocent bystander's.

I can understand why that surprises you. But having owned many american sports cars, I have found porsche to be kinda the opposite in the way they perform. I simply dont agree with street racing. Driving in the redline is a different ball game. I can go in the redline in first and go the speed limit, not that thats any fun. I was only trying to find the power band in these cars without blowing something up. Found it, now the trick is to use it responsibly.

I agree that the temptation is pretty great but not worth the risk.
I came up behind a fellow 911 last week on the freeway, he dropped it into 3rd and punched it but I wouldnt play. He did help me realize that I needed new exhaust though. When this guy dropped gears the sound was unbelievable....nothing like my car...thought I was at LeMans. |
