Should I paint original color ?

My 1980 porsche 911 sc was original yellow and someone had it painted red - a very poor job.
Sould I restore this car to its original or newer year yellow paint??
What is more likely to return my investment when the time comes to sell this car?
Thanks, harold

As it was a poor paintjob, my amateur opinion would be to return to the original colour. It would be easier to do a proper job and would show the best return on your outlay when it was time to sell. But don't make the mistake of thinking it's an investment. I don't expect anything one spends on a car shows a financial profit for a private user. Do it for your own satisfaction.

In 1980, a yellow SC would have been quite dazzling compared to its subtle metallic contemporary SCs: bright, unusual colours were more of a mid '70s thing than early '80s, hence the red paint job, to make it look *modern* as opposed to '70s looking. Someone on the BBS has a yellow SC too.
I think it would look great in its original yellow as opposed to later colour yellow - people would think you've painted it yellow if it was a later yellow. They will think you've painted yellow too, in its original yellow, but you can say, with satisfaction, "that's the original colour"....

Original, original, original. Don't even think about anything else - AND don't cheap out on the paintjob.

Make sure all the glass comes out, moldings come off, etc. - don't have even a trace of the wrong color showing or you'll take a real bath if, and when, you ever sell it.
