Any 3.2 Transplants w/ Turbatrol cooler OK?
I think I have a bad/sticking mocal thermostat causing my recent 2.7 to 3.2 transplant to run hot (~ 210°).
The original 2.7L with 11 blade fan and TurbaTrol oil cooler kit ran 180°. Exception: for 100+ air temperature days & stopped in traffic oil temp would settle at 210 but no more. I installed the 11-blade fan + TurbaTrol kit ~1986 (lines, mocal T-state, front cooler) & I was happy. Recent 3.2 transplant drifts to 210 when stopped in traffic with hi 60's/low 70's air temp. No changes to the TurbaTrol set-up, but I suspect the T-stat. IR temp measurements with engine oil temp gauge ~ 185 were: 1. Thermostat (T-stat) 185 on inlet and return, with fittings to/from front cooler slightly cooler, 2. at cooler fittings temps were 95 on inlet and 70 on return. Guessing T-stat fittings are AN-12 as threads are ~1" dia at thrd crest. Any wisdom on failures of Mocal T-stat (PEL-A0T2-4?), or limitations of this cooler for a 3.2 transplant would be appreciated. Easy daily driver, not a track beast.
