Is my oil tank too rusty?
After cleaning out my oil tank with gasoline and getting a lot of rust particles/dust out I decided to have the tank dipped at Carolina Chem Strip so I could get a better idea just what I had...
here's a few photos, from all that are at http://eludicate.com/~bolen/911e/photos/40.php?page=0 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() most of the interior looks good, but one of the necks still has a bit of rust inside the neck... So pelicans what do you think? I'm feeling pretty leery... I'm going to slosh gas through it again tomorrow to see if that tells me anything else... Thanks! B |

Give it a coat of 2 pack epoxy black and it will be fine, I don't see any pitting of the metal in the photos, just surface corrosion.

I agree, appears to be surface rust. A radiator shop should be able to test it to see if it holds pressure. You could try electrolysis to remove the rust, no media involved, or a rust conversion paint.

Minor surface rust, kill it off and then get a few coats of epoxy paint on it. Easy!

Rust on the outside is irrelevant, its the inside that's important and you cant judge that without getting a camera in there.
