Heat Exchanger ?

I bought a set of Heat exchangers a few years ago to backdate my 77 911S exhaust. One has a metal housing that I believe has to be removed?!!? I'm not sure as to what the purpose of this housing is, probabaly a preheater of sorts!!?

My question: Can I/ do I need to remove this housing to use this heat exchanger on my 77? Thanks in advance for your help!

Roger

Since my car is CIS, I guess I won't need this as I suspected. What about the small short pipe at the top of the exchanger? Does it serve a purpose on a CIS car? i.e., Do I need to remove and close it? Also, if someone in the Atlanta area needs this version and wants to swap a pre-MFI version, it would save me a lot of trouble. I hate to alter this if someone needs one.

That exchanger is for a '72-'73 MFI car. You can probably install it as is or remove the extra sheet metal. The best thing to do would be to sell it to someone who is looking for that style exchanger and find one for a non-MFI application. -John

Thanks John! Ideally I would like to exchange it locally for an earlier version. I don't know what it is worth as for selling it. I don't recall seeing any for sale. Then finding a replacement presents almost the same problem. It is very solid and has no issues that I am aware of.
