Shift Coupler Boot Needed?
How important is it to have the rubber boot installed over the shift coupler?
I have my coupler properly adjusted but the boot is still off after I installed Ed's coupler just to put the car in gear and move it to the garage to refresh my interior. Just wondering how much protection is required in that area. |
I'll be interested in knowing the concensus on this as well. I left mine off and don't seem to have any problems, as the area remains pretty clean. I'm sure others will chime in with the response "Porsche had there for a reason".

I think you want it there to prevent engine compartment fumes from getting into the cabin.

The boot only covers the coupler. |
My understanding is that both are there for the same purpose.

My car did not have one and I did not replace it when I did my bushings back there. I have never had an issue with engine fumes in the compartment. That being said since I have a targa and the top is off most the time I most likely would not notice any way. I dont think much dirt and stuff gets in there so I would not worry about that but its up to you.
