Another MSD question and it won't be the last from the looks of things
MSD 6AL on '77 930
Wayne says to use the white wire from the MSD as the trigger method of choice rather than the magetic trigger wires on the MSD. I have hooked it up both ways and the car will not fire with the white as trigger but will run (although poorly) using the magnetic pickup method. Are 930 disrtibutors different and require using the magnetic pickup input on the MSD unit? |
Lendaddy,
The white wire is used to connect to the points, electronic ignition amplifier output or to the Yellow wire of an MSD Timing Accessory. Since the 930 uses a Magnetic Pickup, you should use the green and violet wires for this purpose. Violet is positive and Green is negative. This is the setup I’m running and it works just fine. One thing to note, do not run wire longer then what’s supplied by MSD for connecting the Magnetic Pickup. The Magnetic Pickup’s signal isn’t very strong and doesn’t travel well over distance. The shorter the violet and green wires... the better. I’m not sure why Wayne recommends using the white wire, maybe he could clarify this for us. |
The MSD unit that I used in Project 24 did not have separate pickups for a magnetic system?
I think that this might be a later version of the MSD unit... -Wayne |
Thanks for the update Wayne.
Use the green and violet wires. :D |
